Description

When paws slide, the whole room feels different.

A senior dog who used to trot across the kitchen now picks their way carefully. They pause at the rug edge. They sit down in the hallway instead of crossing the tile. Paw grips are a low-cost way to add friction right where the paw meets the floor — before you invest in runners, ramps or booties.

Measure your paw-pad width.

Grips are sized by the width of your dog’s main paw pad (the large central pad), not by breed or weight.

Measure across the main pad

How to measure

Have your dog stand on a soft surface. Lift a front paw and measure the width of the large central pad (not including the toes). Measure both a front and a rear paw if they differ — size for the larger one.

Pick the matching size

Size Main paw-pad width
Small Paw Up to 2″
Medium Paw 2 – 2.5″
Large Paw 2.5 – 3″

Between sizes? Round up. If your dog’s paw is noticeably wider than 3″, these grips aren’t the right fit — ask us.

A good match if…

  • Your dog slips or hesitates on hardwood, laminate or smooth tile indoors.
  • They’re otherwise steady but losing confidence on smooth floors.
  • You want to try a low-cost fix before rugs, runners or booties.
  • Your dog tolerates having their paws handled briefly.

You may want to skip if…

  • Your dog refuses to let you touch their paws — applying them becomes a fight.
  • The slipping is on stairs, in the car, or on wet outdoor surfaces — these are indoor smooth-floor pads.
  • Your dog has open paw wounds, irritated skin or pads under treatment — wait until healed, or ask your vet.
  • The weakness is in the legs / hips rather than the floor — a sling may be a better fit (see Padded Rear Leg Support Sling).

How to apply — three steps.

1

Clean & dry the paw pad

Wipe the main pad with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly. Dirt or moisture is the #1 reason grips peel off early.

2

Peel and apply

Peel the backing and center the grip on the main pad. Smooth it down from the middle outward — no wrinkles.

3

Press for 10 seconds

Hold firm pressure for about 10 seconds so the adhesive sets. Wait a few minutes before letting your dog walk on smooth floors.

When to replace them: swap in a fresh pair once the surface looks worn, edges lift, or grip feels noticeably less effective. Plan to reapply every few weeks, depending on how much indoor walking your dog does.

Many customers start with grips, then add a runner by the bed and the stairs if they still need more.

Frequently asked questions.

They add traction between the paw and smooth indoor floors, which noticeably reduces slipping on hardwood and tile. They aren’t a guarantee against every fall — if your dog’s balance or leg strength is the main issue, a rear support sling or veterinary assessment may be the right next step.

Most dogs get used to them within a few minutes, but some will pick at them at first. Distract with a favorite activity while the adhesive sets. If your dog persistently chews or ingests them, stop use and contact us.

It depends on how much indoor walking your dog does and how often their paws get damp. Plan to reapply every few weeks. Replace any grip that looks worn, curled at the edges, or is no longer giving grip.

They’re designed for smooth indoor floors. Mud, wet grass and standing water will shorten their life. Apply fresh before indoor use; remove or replace after outdoor walks.
